Principles: We own ourselves. The only viable purpose of government is to insure that property damage is compensated. Force is only justified in defense of property.

The great debate within the Libertarian Party is the detail of the platform. Those who think the purpose of the Party is to educate want a detailed platform. Those who think the purpose of the Party is to win elections want a small platform with enough spin to attract voters.

The ease with which both the moral and practical answers to any issue can be derived from our principles makes it easy to produce volumes of issues and libertarian responses. What is needed is a database or wiki for each jurisdiction that allows registered Libertarians to add issues of importance to them, and refine the libertarian answers therefore. The result would be an omnibus bill that Libertarians would enact to fix everything if elected in sufficient numbers. Derived from this database would be a platform subset for the purpose of winning elections.

The following diagram delineates the roles and responsibilities of the various elements of the libertarian movement.

This database would be unnecessary were every person versed in the application of libertarian principles to issues. Then reporters would not bother to consult candidates for their response to the issue of the day. The libertarian response would be so predictable that the reporters could determine it themselves. This is another missing tool. We need a concise method of teaching people how to apply libertarian principles to any issue.

How to judge a law: Remove the intermediary (government) and imagine you act directly on individuals affected by the law, if you are not comfortable in that role or would be arrested for enforcing the law, then it is bad law.
