Without specifics, libertarianism is a fog to many people, particularly those who have difficulty relating abstractions to their "real world." To avoid redundant argumentation, provide a forum for delineating the details of an implementation of Libertarianism, and facilitate the derivation of a Libertarian Omnibus Bill, a Libertarian Omnibus Database (LOD) system is needed. It would consist of six related databases and consolidate everything we have to say regarding the issues of the day, their cause/reason, its libertarian principle (morality and practicality) of the reason, the change we would implement to fix the problem, the legalese of the change for legislative purposes and the consequences of the change (benefits, problems, problem mitigation). A pre-internet version of this approach in embodied in the Madison Plan and the Madison Platform (MS Word format).
The initial implementation will incorporate the contents of the James Madison Plan into the change.fp3 and conseq.fp3 database and the national platform into the principle.fp3 database. The system will allow Libertarian Party members (if I can link to the national database, else anyone made aware if it) to add original items (issues, reasons, changes, principles, consequences, legislation) and variations of existing items. After we have expanded it and refined it for a few years, we can ask for a vote to determine the best variation of each item and delete the rest. Then we can promote the system as a forum for a national debate that would make clear the why, what, where and when of changes a Libertarian president and congress would make. After further refinement, an all-in-one, all-or-nothing, no-amendment Libertarian Omnibus Bill can be extracted from the LOD and presented to Congress for enactment. State, county and city oriented LODs can be cloned from the national LOD. If no one else implements such a system on the Web, Bill Holmes will when he has the time. Any suggestions? |
