Media are picky about what they will publish. Some will only accept letters and articles (hereinafter referred to as LTEs) from their distribution or broadcast area. Others will only except LTEs in response to an editorial. Others want the LTEs to be germaine to the subject matter of their publication or broadcast. I compiled a spread sheet of media, emailed and FAXed them asking their preference and updated that list with the distinctions.

Although more media are accepting LTEs via email, many still only use FAX machines. FAXs incur telephone charges unless they are local calls, so LTEs to media that accept only FAXes are distributed regardless of receptivity (national, state, county, city).

A manual version of LIBLET was in use from 1992 to 1998. It relied on the distribution of email and FAX lists down a geographic hierachy of volunteer distributors who would "localize" letters and articles LTEs for State and local media by replacing the author's address with their own, and FAX locally. It was so labor-intensive that three national distributors burned-out on it before it was abandoned.

Submission, Appeal and Distribution and Response sections relate to this old version.

I have since resurrected that list in a FileMaker database and augmented it. I am currently refining the 1,469 record database as I use it send my LTEs. It creates one message per recipient, so they can be personalized or otherwise made more receptive. When I have the time I will make the database accessible via Web like the Letters, Quotations and other databaes, and make it a Libertarian member-only distribution system.*

As of 7 July 2001 I had the 867 email addresses, 595 FAX numbers, which can be used to get current email numbers and 7 voice numbers to be used to get email or FAX numbers.

* Libertarian membership number derived from national database may be password.
