You need only email your libertarian LTE, PR or ART to the national director. He will perform the following tasks:

  1. Check the message to make sure it is libertarian and not from competing interests.
  2. Copy the text of your message and paste it into a new email message (some media hate forwarded email).
  3. Email it to the foreign and national media that have no locality restrictions.
  4. Forward it to the LIBLET State distributors for localization and further distribution.

In your Subject please include LL followed by a space followed by F, N, S, A or P followed by a space, followed by L, P or A followed by a space followed by a short title. The LL will help me distinguish your email from the hordes of email I and the other LIBLET distributors receive. The F, N, S, A or P will indicate the appropriate distribution area, where F is foreign, N is national (USA), S is the targeted state, A is the targeted area code and P is targeted telephone prefix. If you indicate F, it will go everywhere. If you indicate N or any of the other values, its distribution will be accordingly restricted. The L, P or A will indicate the content (letter, press release or article/op. ed. piece). Some media will only accept one and not the other at a particular email address or fax number. These codes can be used by some email readers to filter the incoming email and place it in appropriate folders for subsequent distribution.

Please don't distribute your LTE or ART by any other method, else some media may get the same one twice and possibly with different authors or author addresses and telephone numbers. If you suspect you may have some media on your list that we don't have on ours, please download and scan our list of media names uploaded to this area and email the ones LIBLET doesn't have to me.

Criteria:

  • All LTE and PRs should be less than 250 words.
    • Explanation: 250 words is the normal maximum established by newspapers. Some limit them to 150 words. To avoid its editing and improve its chances of being printed, less is better.
    • Exception: An ART or opinion editor (op. ed.) piece is usually about 650 words. Be advised that distributors who pay toll charges to fax LTEs may not appreciate multiple page pieces and may chose not to fax them.
  • All LTEs should fit on one page
    • Explanation: LIBLET distributors who pay toll charges to fax LTEs the recipients of those faxes will not appreciate a second page with only a few lines on it.
  • All LTEs must have the full name, address and telephone number of the author or contact.
    • Explanation: Newspaper and magazine requirement. Distribution to many media will not require localization, so the LTE will be distributed as is.
  • Authors are encouraged to incorporate the word "libertarian" into their message as often as practical.
  • Authors are encouraged to change "Dear Letters Editor" to "Dear Employee" and email, fax or mail the letter to their local, state and national representatives as appropriate. Visit the Electronic Activist at http://www.crocker.com/~ifas/activist/ to get the government email addresses of interest to you.

If you have a fax modem and email address, please consider being a member of LIBLET. We have many states, area codes and prefixes without distributors. Download the file name APPEAL.TXT for more information.
