Welcome to the San Diego libertarian email lists.  There are two, for different purposes.  By default, new subscribers are added only to the "announcements" list (first).  If you want to be added to the "discussion" list, please send me a request.

1. 'sdlp@sdlp.org' is for announcements, both from the LP and from "small l" libertarians, informational posts, queries from new or potential LP members, items of interest such as letters to the editor, articles of libertarian interest, notices of upcoming TV programs or other events, etc.

2. 'sd-libchat@sdlp.org' is for discussions, debates, opinion posts, controversial topics, provocative letters or articles, etc. Also, if you want to reply or comment on an 'sdlp@sdlp.org' post, send your email to 'sd-libchat@sdlp.org' (there is no discussion on 'sdlp@sdlp.org').

The rules for both lists are: no flaming (even emotional topics on 'sd-libchat@sdlp.org' are no excuse for ad hominem attacks on your fellow subscribers), no spamming (e.g., advertisements), and no posting items larger than 30 Kbytes in size (some people still have slow systems and these large posts noticeably impact their computers). Anything larger than 30 Kbytes should be put on a web page, or emailed privately to people who request a copy from you.  I hope that you enjoy the lists and find them useful.

Best,
--

4. Are there other e-mail lists of interest?

Liberty Outlook: A news dissemination email list maintained by a San Diego Libertarian, Mark Laythorpe
http://www.egroups.com/group/liberty_outlook/fullinfo.html

Although it is not a San Diego related e-mail list, I chose to include Reason Express because it is frequently cited on the "SD LP Announcements" list.

Previous issues of Reason Express are available at
     http://www.reason.com/re/re.html

     To subscribe visit http://www.reason.com/re/subscribe.html

5. Are there web sites related to San Diego Libertarians?

The official site of the San Diego Libertarian Party, maintained by Mark Laythorpe is at http://www.sdlp.org/
It includes the business meeting agenda, articles by local libertarians, candidates, Liberty: The Official Newsletter of the San Diego Libertarian Party, local links, officers, proposition propositions, recurring events, special events, and supper club agenda.

Liberty: The Official Newsletter of the San Diego Libertarian Party, maintained by Mark Laythorpe
http://se1.com/usp/lr/sdlp/liberty/default.htm has back issues of the Liberty Newsletter.

http://se1.com/forums/  --  Libertarian Resources maintained by Bill Holmes has discussion areas on the topics of abortion, Libertarian
Homeland in Belize, SDLP Business, SDLP Information, LP and Religion, and SDLP Membership.  This is a combination listserver and forum system

==============================================================

6. When should I warn everyone about a computer or e-mail virus?

Possibly never.

Such warnings very frequently turn out to be hoaxes.  Please check the following web sites before you post the warning.  You may find out that the virus in question is a known hoax, or you may confirm that it is a legitimate threat.

Here are web sites that both list hoaxes AND legitimate threats.

http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/

http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/hoax.html

http://www.mcafee.com/centers/anti-virus/

http://www.datafellows.com/virus-info/hoax/

That last site recommends NEVER forwarding virus warnings to anybody except to your company's information services department.
